Just in Time for the FIFA World Cup, Union Station Los Angeles Is Ready for Its Moment

June 9, 2026

Union Station Los Angeles has been called "the last of the great train stations”, and one visit makes it easy to see why. On the National Register of Historic Places since 1980, the station is a stunning example of Mission Moderne architecture, blending Spanish Colonial, Mission Revival, and Art Deco styles into something that feels entirely its own. Father-and-son architects John and Donald Parkinson’s design, complete with massive brass windows, vaulted ceilings, and Grand Waiting Room chandeliers, has welcomed passengers for the past 87 years.

Today, Union Station is the largest passenger railroad terminal in the Western United States, connecting Metro Rail (LA's subway system), Metrolink (the regional commuter rail), Amtrak, the Dodger Express (a game-day bus service to Dodger Stadium, just over a mile away), and regional bus lines, all under one iconic roof.

Over 6.8 million passengers move through the station every year, from daily commuters heading to Downtown offices and intercity travelers passing through from San Diego or the Bay Area to tourists and locals on their way to Disneyland or Universal and visitors flying in and out of LAX (SOURCE: Placer.ai). Union Station is embedded in the Los Angeles journey.

Union Station doesn't feel like a place people rush through. The Grand Waiting Room, with its Art Deco chandeliers and rows of leather mahogany chairs, invites people to slow down. The historic Ticket Hall draws visitors who wander in just to look up at the intricate decorative details. First-time visitors stop to take photos. Regulars still notice the architecture. Union Station earns attention without asking for it.

Which makes it one of the most compelling IRL environments in Los Angeles for brands. OUTFRONT's media presence at Union Station spans the full footprint of the station – from large-scale exterior dominations along Alameda Street, including a clocktower wallscape, pillars, and light pole banners, to interior formats throughout the waiting room, passenger concourse, and passageways.

Brands can go broad with a full Station Domination, owning every surface from the main entrance to the train platforms. Or they can activate experientially inside the Historic Ticket Hall or Grand Waiting Room and transform the space with immersive, physical installations. New digital displays will soon roll out across the concourse and passageways. adding dynamic, flexible storytelling capabilities to an already powerful environment.

The first brand to show up here is the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC), the lead organization behind the Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee. LASEC’s bold and colorful campaign is already live throughout the station, its high-impact placements offering a vibrant welcome for residents and visitors as the city prepares to host matches over the next two months.

It's an especially fitting debut since Union Station has also been designated an official FIFA Fan Zone destination. That means the station will stream matches live across its digital displays from June 25 to 28, turning the Grand Waiting Room and concourse into a high-energy viewing destination for fans from around the world.

But FIFA is just the beginning. The 2028 Summer Olympics are on the horizon. And if recent history is any guide (hi, Dodgers!), Union Station doesn't slow down between big moments – it connects them.

For brands, Union Station is a defining opportunity – a landmark venue unlike anywhere else in Los Angeles, a massive and diverse audience of millions, and a media environment that’s never existed here before in the station’s 87-year history.

This is its first chapter in advertising. Make sure your brand is part of it.
