OUTFRONT Wins Big at 2024 OAAA Conference

OUTFRONT returned from last week’s 2024 OAAA Conference with armloads of industry acclaim, covering both the art and science of out of home. Our wins included a pack-leading 22 OBIE nominated campaigns with eight winners including our first Platinum OBIE Award (the oldest and most prestigious honor for creative excellence in OOH design), two-thirds of the OAAA Local Media Plan Awards including the grand prize winner, and 30% representation in the inaugural class of Future Leaders. Phew, that’s a lot of hardware!

That Platinum OBIE was awarded for Space Invaders: World Defense, the groundbreaking augmented reality mobile game that was the result of combining OUTFRONT XLabs’ passion for digital innovation with Google’s Geospatial AR technology, Taito’s iconic aliens, and UNIT9’s game-development wizardry. Space Invaders: World Defense also claimed a Gold award in the Interactive (Online Integration) category and a Silver for Live Entertainment, Events, & Gaming.

The Media Plan Awards focus on local case studies and offer proof positive that OOH is consistently being used as a strategic media element. The grand prize winner was Icelandair for a campaign in support of its “Iceland: Around the Corner” brand activation event in Boston. The other laureates were the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the City University of New York, and Visit Virginia Blue Ridge

Back to the OBIEs – XLabs wasn’t the only OUTFRONT winner. STUDIOS, our in-house creative agency, cleaned up as well! Our subway shuttle wrap collaboration with The New York Times secured Gold awards in the Local and Transit categories.

This Is What Hip Hop Sounds Like,” our celebration of the musical genre’s 50th birthday, won the Silver in the non-profit category. Our seventh OBIE award went to STUDIOS, a Silver for their work on Samsonite’s “Travel Back to Now” campaign.

Honorable mention to several other finalist campaigns from STUDIOS: UNA Vodka, Blockchat, We Wish We Had, 97.1 fm The Drive, Rochester Institute of Technology, Away Suitcases, and our Bob Barker Memorial.

Last but certainly not least, the OAAA and OOH United joined forces to recognize ten future leaders in the industry. Three of the ten were from OUTFRONT! Congratulations to Shaadi Emami-Marand, Rahni Lawrence, and Amber Simon on being recognized for their contributions.

The OAAA Industry Conference was themed ‘Our Moment,’ and in many ways, it was OUTFRONT’s moment,” said Chief Marketing Officer Jodi Senese. “By all measures we were fully out front as a brand, as industry leaders, and with OUTstanding team and individual performances.”
