Hinge’s “No Ordinary Love” Campaign Celebrates Real-Life Connection
September 3rd, 2026
Dating may begin on a screen, but the moments that move a relationship forward rarely fit inside one. A pause before answering, the uncertainty behind a difficult question, or the relief that follows an honest conversation can reveal more than a message ever could. Hinge brings those details to life in the third chapter of No Ordinary Love, its brand campaign based on the imperfect stories of real couples who met on the app. And for the third year, it promoted the campaign with IRL media on the New York City Subway.

For the campaign’s first two years, those love stories were published exclusively in written formats. This year, Hinge and its creative agency Dazed Studio expanded the anthology into the brand’s first audiobook. Five contemporary authors interviewed five real couples, then wrote and narrated stories inspired by the conversations that shaped each relationship.
The format reflects the campaign’s focus on connection growing from the screen into real life. At the same time, it responded to a growing interest in audio among the Gen Z audience Hinge wants to reach.
Three Years, Three Ways to Tell Stories

Since 2024, Hinge has partnered with 16 authors to turn real dating experiences into short stories. The first anthology examined the pressure to find perfection and the “icks” that can derail an early connection. The campaign creative used QR codes to link to the stories.
The second used alternating perspectives to explore the excitement and self-doubt happening on both sides of a new relationship. This time, Subway riders could read teasers of the stories right on the creative before clicking through to a Hinge microsite that grew beyond a standard campaign landing page. Hinge also introduced a Substack newsletter and produced physical books and zines, giving the stories a life in the real world.
Audio became the next step rather than a replacement. The stories remain on Substack, while the audiobook offers another route into the anthology. Audiences can still read the stories or listen as the authors bring them to life. Liveboard triptychs and mezzanine posters on the New York City Subway are still the doorway in.
Why Hinge Pivoted to Audio Now

The addition of an audiobook was in response to Gen Z’s growing appetite for the medium according to Marketing Brew. Romance is already the most popular reading genre among adults ages 18 to 29, and one of the most-engaged categories on Audible, making audio a natural meeting point for the campaign’s audience and subject (SOURCES: Statista, Marketing Brew).
Audiobooks also provide more time than a social post or short video to develop a character and let a story unfold. No Ordinary Love uses that space without turning its couples into perfect romantic leads. Its value comes from the uncertainty, misunderstandings, and difficult conversations that audiences may recognize in their own relationships.
In audio, listeners hear the emotion of the real-life experiences. The authors’ narration brings out the pauses, humor, discomfort, and hesitation that written copy can only suggest. As Hinge’s Tamika Young put it, “These stories were meant to be heard.”
One Story, Several Settings

The campaign’s digital out of home creative promoted the audiobook with video trailers featuring the real couples that build a creative world around the anthology without making the relationships feel staged. The wider rollout includes video trailers, social voiceovers, creator conversations, Hinge’s first-ever audio ads, and epilogues recorded by the couples.
Jamie Knowles of Dazed Studio said audio gave the team room to “slow down” and stay with the stories’ vulnerable moments. That same patience defines the campaign as a whole. With audio, Hinge expanded the story, matched the format to Gen Z’s changing habits. With IRL media, they ensured the story would be heard.
